Preparing For Photo Day

Preparing2

CLASSIC

Photo day is on it’s way – we are here to help you get ready!  Remembering the 3 c’s will help ensure photo day is as stress free as possible.

  • Classic
  • Comfortable
  • Colours

A little bit of planning can go a long way.

Ask yourself a couple of questions:

Do I want to remember what my child was madly obsessed with as a 3 year old?  If so, let him wear that ninja turtle top he won’t let you take off him anyway and save yourself the tears and drama on photo morning.

Am I planning on framing that precious kindy photo and displaying it in the lounge room for everyone to admire?  If “yes” is the answer, then have a look at the colours in your lounge room and try and find a basic colour in your daughters wardrobe that compliments the room – your portraits will fit right in!

Preparing1

COMFORTABLE

Make sure your clothing choices for photo day are comfortable.  If your kids can move comfortably in their clothes, they will be more relaxed and their personality will shine.

Little collared shirts can be very cute, but on young children who can’t yet stand on their own (and have their photo seated), they can pucker and pull attention away from the face, tee shirts are a great alternative.  I highly recommend pants with a little bit of “give” in them as we often get the kids doing something active and tight denim jeans can get in the way of having the most fun.

For little ones with longer hair, having a hairstyle on photo day where hair comes off the face means we can get on with getting the best laughs out of your child, rather than asking educators to adjust hair off faces and out of eyes every second photo.

Denim skirts look great when you are standing, but often when seated, we need to do lots of adjusting to ensure your photos are not showcasing the latest iteration of their favourite cartoon character underwear…..

COLOURS

Childcare and kindy photos are about fun.  Bold, block colours can make striking portraits – the “kindy tee-shirt” is always a favourite of mine – they are timeless, classic and bold all in one.  Sibling photos lend themselves to classic colours especially with mixed gender families. Cream & beige – both light and dark, grey tones or blues and greys all look great together.

A great tip is to ensure there is a “back up photo day spare top” in your child’s bag that won’t look out of place if they need to have a clothing change before photos are taken.

One of the reasons we start bright and early is to ensure we capture your portraits before the activities during play take their toll on your child’s outfit.  We rarely need a child to change clothes before their photos, but it’s better to be on the safe side.

It’s worth noting that most of our preschool portraits are from the waist up.  If a child lives by the motto “shoes are optional”, don’t stress, feet are not included in photos.

and the big one....CONFIDENCE!

The most confident child who has practised their smiles ALL morning can display their shy side in an instant – and after two decades doing this, we see it most when they have their parent or caregiver around.

We know the pressure is great to get the best photo of each child. Relaxed parents mostly mean relaxed kids. If it’s not your normal childcare day and you need to bring them in for their photo, consider doing a “pseudo drop off” like any other childcare morning. As soon as your child has settled, an educator can bring them out for a photo.

If you do come and see us with your child and we can see their confidence waning, trust our que that “mum has to sign a bit of paperwork in the office”. Within minutes, they are happily playing and ready to chat to us about their purple pet or unicorn under their bed. It works 99% of the time!
